As an additional string to my bow, I decided to offer my services as an expert witness freelancer. This entails writing documents for the benefit of Courts which sometimes involve reports on very complex subjects delivered to an audience which is highly educated, but likely unfamiliar with the intricacies of technical financial planning.
In May 2023 I completed my first case as an expert witness, in which I was asked to provide a report for solicitors representing a financial adviser being sued by the FCA. I felt that my duty to the court required me to answer the questions without bias, therefore I did not read the statement of particulars, the response or any of the case files, as these were not within the scope of the questions I was asked by the Court. After my involvement, the case was settled out of Court, though until then I was prepared to attend Court to stand by my report.
